For those who accept the "wisdom" from inside the Beltway, amnesty for the twelve million or more illegal aliens presently in our homeland is inevitable. In the U.S. Senate, both parties have seemed intent on a repeat of last year’s amnesty bill, while the White House, remaining stubbornly oblivious to the anger generated among its most loyal base, remains fixed on an agenda of placating the Mexican government and selling out the American people on this issue.

Yet despite incessant reporting of this supposed "done deal," some very encouraging signs from the heartland attest to the fact that the debate is far from over.

Out on the campaign trail, ordinary citizens who recognize their country’s future as a far loftier goal than the acquisition of cheap labor (among Republicans) or cheap votes (the real motivation of the Democrats), are forcefully conveying to the slate of presidential hopefuls that they consider amnesty for illegals to be nothing less than a betrayal of the country.

Osvaldo Aldrete Davila is an admitted Mexican drug dealer who regularly transports Marijuana and other illegal narcotics across the US-Mexico border. In February 2005, US Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who said Davila had a gun, fired on Davila and the drug dealer fled back across the border. It was later discovered that Davila had been hit, in one of his buttocks, by a bullet. The US Border Agents, not Davila, were convicted of "violating Davila’s civil rights".

For testifying against the Border Agents, drug dealer Davila was given immunity from prosecution on his own drug charges. Instead, Agent Ramos was sentenced to 11 years in prison and Agent Compean received a 12 year prison term. Davila is expected to renew his drug trade, as soon as possible. Note: The Mexican influence at the US border is growing even larger.

Neither US Border Patrol Agents nor US National Guard troops are allowed to protect the US-Mexico border region. Border Patrol Agents are prosecuted for doing their jobs and National Guard troops are not allowed to use their weapons against Mexican gunmen who cross our border illegally. Many people have and are speculating that it is the trilateral Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) that has taken precedence and authority over US sovereignty. Note: The SPP effectively provides no borders to illegal immigrants throughout the North American continent. Only legal citizens are, now, required to provide passports.

As Americans remember the horror of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington more than five years ago, the US borders are practically as porous as ever. Yet Americans get few answers during the heated debate. What many hear are abstractions about tightening border security with no mention of how that is to be achieved.

According to testimony given to the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee by General Peter Pace, then Vice Chairman, now Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Hamas has joined Hezbollah and Al Qaeda in the Triple Frontier Zone in Latin America where the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay converge.

There the Islamic terror groups train recruits, gather intelligence on targets, launder money and sell drugs. There is evidence that these terrorists and narco-terrorists will soon migrate north into the United States. He cited terrorism reports indicating terrorist groups are active in Canada and Central-South America.

Despite the complete disdain that conservative America holds towards former Assistant Attorney General Jamie Gorelick, it is hardly likely that she actually intended to help Bin Laden’s terrorists to successfully perpetrate the September 11 attacks. Rather, her goal was to stifle the ability of the justice system to hold her boss, Bill Clinton, accountable for the corruption being conducted from his office. Bin Laden merely benefited from her enablement of Clinton’s exploits.

Unfortunately, her lack of sinister intent, at least as it might pertain to the terrorists, was irrelevant to the ultimate harm she caused her country. More unfortunate still is the fact that in the aftermath of the attacks, those who, along with Gorelick had left the nation vulnerable, remained focused on their own interests and thus continue to act in a manner that poses a grave danger to the country.

The ongoing saga of former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, and the selective myopia of the "9-11 Commission" stand as grim reminders of such.

As of 2005, Michigan held the largest and still growing Muslim population in the United States and the second largest Arab population outside of the Middle East. Outside of Muslim-run countries, Paris—which still experiences nightly vehicle torchings and mayhem in its Islamic neighborhoods—has the largest. It is estimated that eight million Muslims now live in the US and their numbers are continuing to grow. Islam is now the second-largest religious body in the United States and is said to be its fastest growing religious movement.

Although hundreds of long-time residents of Hamtramck, MI protested the city allowing the five-times-per-day Muslim call to prayer to be broadcast over Hamtramck’s loudspeakers, the city council voted unanimously in April 2004 to allow it. Prior to the city council making its decision, public input from any citizens (except Muslims) had not been allowed. This continues today. Hamtramck resident Bob Golen was outraged by the city council’s actions and said: "So they had made up their mind before any public meeting and it’s been five-nothing ever since. This is only the beginning. They're going to use Hamtramck as a precedent. This is coming to your town, to the town down the road, and to the [next] town down the road." Golen added that, after the city council voted to allow the calls to prayer, one of the city councilmen said that he was "proud to set a precedent in this country."

Mainstream Americans are not overwhelmingly outraged over the lack of any "cut and run" policy in Iraq, thus dispelling the dubious notion that the November elections resulted from widespread disaffection over the war. Furthermore, the newly ascendant Democrat majority has clearly been pulling its punches in regards to the liberal agenda it longs to implement.

Initial analyses of the elections are proving correct, the Country was not embracing Democrat liberalism. Rather it was rejecting the "light beer" version that had been offered during the last several years by the Republicans.

Unfortunately, on what is perhaps the key defining issue of the times, neither the Republican "moderates" in Congress, nor the President, seem to have gotten the message. Ominous rumblings of a resurrected immigration "reform" measure (read: blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants) reflect as much.

For such an abominable measure to succeed, it would still require "bipartisan" cooperation from a significant number of fence-sitting Republicans. President Bush believes that he can assemble such a coalition. Perhaps he is correct in his belief, even if by doing so he will most assuredly railroad their chances for a Republican comeback in ‘08.

It didn't take long before the new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the new chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. John Conyers started making noises on how they can further undermine efforts to protect Americans from terrorist attacks.

Speaker-elect Pelosi (D-CA) is co-sponsoring the "End Racial Profiling Act", according to syndicated columnist Sher Zieve. The proposed bill is said to have been prompted by the recent removal of six Muslim imams, who are reported to have acted in a decidedly provocative manner, from a US Airways’ flight. The problem with using this act to curb so-called profiling is that the persons who demanded the removal of the suspicious Muslims do not work for the US government.

Pelosi and Conyers are calling for the end of all racial profiling, additional severe limits placed on the Patriot Act and the implementation of broad-based US citizenship for illegal aliens.

Pelosi said, "Since September 11th, many Muslim Americans have been subjected to searches at airports and other locations based upon their religion and national origin, without any credible information linking individuals to criminal conduct. Racial and religious profiling is fundamentally un-American and we must make it illegal."

The National Association of Former Border Patrol Agents recently released their position paper on all aspects of the illegal immigration issue. Over 250 former Border Patrol members of all ranks signed the document, which received scant mention by the mainstream news media.

The position paper addresses amnesty and guest worker programs, securing the US borders, sanctions against employers of illegal aliens, and condemnation of political leaders who subvert and undermine the efforts of the US Border Patrol.

"The nation has made demonstrable mistakes in the past in its efforts to control immigration. Let us, who were there to see them, remind the nation of the outcome and make suggestions for change," said Kent Lundgren, coordinator for the NAFBA.

Their position on illegal immigration begins with a strong border security initiative including what they termed "meaningful processes for screening those who wish to enter [the United States] legally."

"We believe that aliens residing in the United States must be here with the nation's permission or they should leave or be removed," they wrote.

When it comes to any type of amnesty program, the former Border Patrol agents were blunt and succinct: "We absolutely oppose any legislation that would allow aliens to remain in this country who have entered illegally or who have entered legally and remained here illegally."

The agents have little sympathy for employers who violate US immigration and labor laws. They stated that the current laws "presently on the books are adequate tools for the purpose" of enfforcing sanctions on businesses caught employing illegal aliens.

Here are changes in our national security as proposed by the Department of Homeland Security. Time will tell if they will be enacted and if they will be effective.

From: Department of Homeland Security
Release Date: November 30, 2006

The Administration announced its intention to work with Congress to reform the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) thereby strengthening security and facilitating international allies’ ability to join the program. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has identified a number of security measures to be sought from Visa Waiver Program candidates. DHS will work with Congress to implement the following security requirements:

1. Electronic travel authorizations. The United States will develop an Electronic Travel Authorization program for VWP travelers to give advance information on their travels to the Unites States. In return, the VWP travelers will be given authorization electronically to travel to the United States. This program will be modeled on a similar program that has been used in Australia for many years.

2. Passenger information exchange. For the most effective background checks on prospective travelers, the United States needs information and assistance from the country where the traveler resides. Such assistance should be a routine part of any VWP relationship.

3. Reporting lost and stolen passports. VWP countries will be asked to report lost and stolen passport data for both blank and issued passports, and to do so as promptly as possible. We have made progress in this area thanks to Congress’ past requirement that VWP countries provide such reports; the time has come to raise our sights.

4. Repatriation of removed aliens. When illegal immigrants are found in the United States, they must be removed from the United States to their home country. The home country must agree to accept them for repatriation. If the country refuses, or simply neglects to do so, the United States is forced to allow the aliens to remain in this country. VWP countries should agree to accept their citizens promptly when those citizens are caught violating U.S. law.

In addition, DHS will seek agreement with VWP countries on the following security enhancements:
