Americans and Mexicans have widely divergent views of border issues, according to a new poll by Zogby International.

Zogby found that a large majority of the Mexican population believes the southwest territory of the U.S. rightfully belongs to Mexico, and that Mexicans should have the right to enter the U.S. without first obtaining U.S. permission. By contrast, Zogby's survey of Americans conducted within a few days of the Mexican poll shows a large majority supports reducing immigration levels and wants the military deployed along the border to protect the U.S. from illegal immigration.

Zogby's poll found that 58 percent of Mexicans agree with the statement, "the territory of the United States' Southwest rightfully belongs to Mexico." Only 28 percent disagree, and 14 percent are unsure.

A similar majority, 57 percent, agree with the statement, "Mexicans should have the right to enter the U.S. without U.S. permission," while 35 percent disagree. Seven percent are unsure.

The survey has a margin of error of 3.5 percent. The Mexico portion of the survey was conducted in Spanish between May 25 and May 26 among 801 adults chosen at random throughout Mexico. The poll was commissioned by Americans for Immigration Control, Inc. (AIC), which advocates increased restrictions on immigration.

"There is obviously a large and significant gap between the attitudes of Americans and Mexicans," said Robert Goldsborough, AIC president. "While most Americans want immigration reduced, most Mexicans think they don't even need permission to enter our country. The poll clearly shows there is less common ground for immigration negotiations between Mexico and the U.S. than the leaders think. Support for a porous border and a loose migration policy occurs only on the Mexican side, not in the U.S."

Zogby's survey of American attitudes found wide majorities of Americans also oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. The U.S. portion of the survey was conducted of 1,015 likely voters in the U.S. from May 28 to May 30. It found that 65 percent disagree with the statement, "foreigners residing illegally in the U.S. should be given amnesty." Just 26 percent of likely voters support amnesty for illegals, while 9 percent are unsure.

A large majority, 58 percent, agree that the U.S. should "admit fewer immigrants each year." Only 6 percent want "more immigrants each year," and 30 percent want to "keep immigration at the current annual levels."

The single largest majority in the entire poll was found among Americans supporting use of the military to guard the border. Fully 68 percent of those surveyed agree with the statement, "the U.S. should deploy military troops on the border as a temporary measure to help the U.S. Border Patrol curb illegal immigration." Only 28 percent disagree, and 3 percent are unsure.

Child militiasEver since the recent Israel-Hezbollah war, the Hezbollah terrorists have been making headline news. Besides operating openly in Venezuela, Arab newspapers reports they have been recruiting children for militias to be martyrs.

From Ynet News:

Egyptian weekly Roz Al-Yusuf reported that Hizbullah has set up armed militias comprised of more than 2,000 children of shahids aged 10-15 and that the Hizbullah-affiliated “Mahadi Boy Scouts” organization is training them to sacrifice their lives.

“Hizbullah took pure children and established armed militias,” the report said. “Prior to the recent war with Israel these children made annual appearances as “December 14 Units” only in the framework of the Jerusalem Day celebrations, but today they are referred to as "future suicides."

“The children wear camouflage army uniforms, paint their faces black and take the Jihad and Holy War oath,” according to the report. “They are chosen by those responsible for recruitment to Hizbullah only because they are the children of shahids.”

The report said that the Mahadi Boy Scouts organization teaches the children Hizbullah and Shiite ideology, adding that their first lesson was titled ‘Israel is a temporary country.’

It is no secret that the Islam terrorist organizations have recruited children in the past.

The terrorist group Hezbollah is no longer just operating in the Middle East, but are now in  South America. They are openly operating in Venezuela, as Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez has proved to be a strong ties to Syria and Iran. Chávez has just returned recently from a visit to Syria.

Hezbollah has two websites on Yahoo and MSN. Both websites have incorporated the AK-47 Russian designed assault rifle as part of their logo. In a recent article in Venezuela Today, Gustavo Coronel describes how Hezbollah are importing their terrorist activities to the Americas:

On the Venezuelan side of the Guajira Peninsula, a territory shared with Colombia, the members of the tribe of the Wayuu walk across political boundaries without restrain. They were there before Venezuela and Colombia existed and they think of themselves as a nation. Recently a disturbing group has appeared, as alien visitors, in their desert landscape: Hezbollah. The Islamic fanatics of Hezbollah are rapidly infiltrating the tribe of the Wayuu. They are indoctrinating the members of this tribe, to convert them into Islamic fanatics in charge of disseminating the terrorist message that has already created chaos, death and misery in the Middle East. The Hezbollah group invading Venezuela is doing its work openly in the Venezuelan side of the Guajira Peninsula. They are disseminating, via Internet, a strategy "to change Venezuela," including:

  • Total destruction "of the sex industry" (whatever that means),
  • Attacking the upper classes, "who are the most corrupt," all white-collar criminals and continuing the cleaning downwards,
  • Attacking corruption in government (not such a bad idea) and in the masses, both civilians and military,
  • Attacking false idols and satanic cults, as defined by them.

While these gangsters roam at will in a country that has become a tropical version of Gotham City, Hugo Chávez is touring the world looking for allies in his quest to create an anti-U.S. coalition. President Bush has said that he "does not consider Chávez as a threat" ("Chávez's War of Words," By Jackson Diehl, The Washington Post, August 7, 2006). In this article Diehl reports in detail the attempts Chávez is making at creating the alliance but dismisses these attempts simply as a "war of words."

I would not be so sure. Chávez has been under estimated for some time now. He is generally perceived as an uncultured clown, as a person with unrealistic dreams of grandeur and as a wasteful political leader with an obsolete ideology. This is all true but Hugo Chávez is also a very dangerous man, with a big bag of money and a deep inferiority complex rooted in social and racial components. I think he is  willing to do anything to leave an imprint in history, no matter what, how or when. This is a scenario that has to be taken into account if very unpleasant surprises for the national security of the Western Hemisphere are to be avoided.

Today, Hugo Chávez is openly siding with North Korea, Iran, Syria and Cuba, four rogue, terrorist states. By creating a Mission Manager post for Cuba and Venezuela, something only previously done for Iran and North Korea, the U.S. government is finally assigning the Castro-Chavez axis the priority it deserves. This is a move that has both flattered and worried Chávez. Therefore he has decided to accelerate his efforts to create a global coalition against the U.S.

If Chávez is not considered a threat by President Bush, then what is he? You can judge Chávez by the company he keeps.

US ConstitutionTo quote H.R. 5013: “In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, certain agencies confiscated the firearms of [citizens of the State of Louisiana], in contravention of the Second Amendment, depriving these citizens of the right to keep and bear arms and rendering them helpless against criminal activity.”

The “Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006” (H.R. 5013 in the House and S. 2599 in the Senate) would prohibit federal law enforcement officers, military officers, or others operating under federal law or receiving federal funds, while operating in support of an emergency relief operation, from seizing any firearm that would normally be legal to possess.

Additionally, officials may not require registration of any firearm, or prohibit possession of any firearm, if such actions would not normally be required in non-emergency situations. They may also not order the disarming of persons otherwise authorized to carry firearms, simply because those individuals are operating under the control of a federal agency in an emergency relief operation.

This legislation would prevent the opening of an impending loophole in the Second Amendment. Would-be tyrants could brand any situation an “emergency” in order to suspend the right to keep and bear arms. H.R. 5013/S. 2599 would nip that idea in the bud. As we write, the proposal has 106 cosponsors in the House and 13 in the Senate.
