A letter to Americans concerned about the treatment of the terrorists in Guantanamo Bay

A Lady libertarian wrote a lot of letters to the White House complaining about the treatment of a captive insurgent (terrorist) being held in Guantanamo Bay . She received back the following reply:

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington , D.C. 20016

Dear Concerned Citizen,

Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay , Cuba .

Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington . You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like yourself, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care. Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday.

Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter.

Death Penalty For Leaving Islam: Afghanistan

by J. Grant Swank, Jr.

This news is just out: Christian faces beheading because he moved from Allah to Christ.

The US is liberating Afghanistan.

But Afghanistan still rules under the sharia—the legalistic, murdering / maiming verses in the Koran. There is no friendliness toward Christians. Allah has explicit statements concerning Islamics who leave Mohammed’s Allah for the Bible’s Christ. The end is death for the Christian.

Therefore, I wonder what in the name of religious freedom we are doing in Afghanistan after all? I suppose it’s the Christian thing to do—help our enemies and leave the rest to God. So if that’s the way I as a Christian am to conclude it, then I hand it over to the good Lord who sees through his own rule of eternal justice balanced with mercy.

Anyhow, in Kabul there’s a 42-year-old Abdul Rahman who testifies to Christ as Lord and Master. Now get this bloody contradiction: The judge informs media that no religious discrimination is permitted in the country. However, since the country is based upon sharia, converting to Christ from Allah equals the death penalty?

Make sense of that one and I’ll mail you a free Bible.

We have met the devil and he is Muslim. All around the world this is so. And the more time moves on, the more the skeptical will realize this to be the bottom line truth.

Hug a Muslim and you hug the one who is bound by Allah to stab you, the infidel, in the back. It is not a crime. It is a pious act. In fact, Islamics are the most righteous on Earth for whatever they do in the name of Allah—rape, murder, thievery, plundering, blowing up babies, tying suicide belts to their children—is not criminal but spiritual excellence.

I tell you again: the more time moves along, the more the skeptic will understand that we have met the devil and he is the devil.

Colors Of The American Flag

By Regenia G. Butcher

I would imagine that even before the ink on the Declaration of Independence had dried, the sentences: "Are we gonna have a flag? We gotta have a flag! Britain has a flag!" were echoed by members of the Continental Congress. But then, a flag is important. It is a symbol representing a group and their beliefs — a means of identification.

It has long been reported that in May of 1776, Betsy Ross sewed the first version of the flag we use today. The American flag has, of course, gone through several design transformations since then, as states were added to the nation and stars were added to the design.

Symbolism Abounding

Unique and appealing as the design is, I think our flag is also full of symbolism. To me, the red stripes indicate courage, blood and suffering. The white stripes mean truth, purity and open-mindedness. The word stripes, itself, is associated with oppressions, struggles, punishments and lessons learned. An enduring flag represents a state of serving or coming-of-age the hard way.

FRC Voices Opposition to Unconstitutional Free Speech Restrictions

Washington D.C. - March 2, the Homeland Security and Governmental Reform Committee passed by a vote of 10-6 the Lieberman-Levin Amendment to regulate certain activities pertaining to so-called "grassroots lobbying." Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins released the following statement:

"Today the Senate committee voted to impose unconstitutional and unfair restraints on non-profit, grassroots activity. The Lieberman-Levin amendment grants Congress the authority to scrutinize and regulate the constitutionally protected efforts of groups to alert citizens regarding legislative developments in Congress.

"Reasoned attempts to address the concerns emerging from the Abramoff scandal should not be used as an excuse for incumbent officer-holders to encroach upon our most basic Constitutional liberties. However, the amendment approved by the committee today violates the constitutionally protected right of citizens to petition government, stifles debate, and shuts out the voice of average citizens.

"This amendment is a red herring, it take the focus off the corruption surrounding high paid lobbyists, and attempts to make non-profit citizen groups the whipping boy. The full Senate should protect the constitutional right of citizens to petition Congress by stripping this misguided amendment when the measure reaches the Senate floor."

Negative Perception Of Islam Increasing

With all the reported violence in the world caused by some of the Muslims over the cartoons and Islam Symbolterrorist deadly actions, it is no wonder the world’s perception of Islam is growing very negative. Granted not all Muslims are to blamed, and there are some peace loving Muslims, the violence against humanity is occurring in countries under control by Islam.

According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll:

The poll found that nearly half of Americans — 46 percent — have a negative view of Islam, seven percentage points higher than in the tense months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, when Muslims were often targeted for violence.

These same sentiments were expressed in a recent post in Jihad Watch:

Judicial Watch Files Lawsuit Against Defense Department for Withholding Video of 9/11 Attack on Pentagon

(Washington, DC)  Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes Ground Zero - World Trade Centergovernment corruption, announced today that it filed a lawsuit on February 22, 2006 against the Department of Defense to force the release of a video that allegedly shows United Flight 77 striking the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.  Judicial Watch seeks the information in part to help put to rest conspiracy theories that a government drone or missile hit the Pentagon rather than the hijacked United airplane.

Judicial Watch originally filed a Freedom of Information Act request on December 15, 2004, seeking all records pertaining to camera recordings from the Sheraton National Hotel, the Nexcomm/Citgo gas station, Pentagon security cameras and the Virginia Department of Transportation.  The Department of Defense admitted in a January 26, 2005 letter that it possessed a videotape responsive to Judicial Watch’s request.  However, the Pentagon advised that the video is exempt from release because it is, “part of an ongoing investigation involving Zacarias Moussaoui.”

Judicial Watch argues in its lawsuit that “there is no legal basis” for the DOD’s refusal to release the videotape.  First, while the Freedom of Information Act does allow an exemption for ongoing law enforcement investigations, the Defense Department does not have law enforcement authority over Moussaoui.  That belongs to the Department of Justice or the FBI.  Second, the investigation of Moussaoui is complete.  He pleaded guilty in April 2005 to conspiring with al-Qaida to fly planes into U.S.buildings.  Jury selection in Moussaoui’s death penalty trial is nearly finished, and opening arguments are scheduled for March 6.

“There is no legal or rational basis for the Department of Defense to withhold this video,” said JW President Tom Fitton.  “There may be nothing of importance on this tape, but our experience has been that whenever the government takes extraordinary measures to keep the lid on documents, it is worth investigating.”

A copy of Judicial Watch’s lawsuit against the Defense Department and the original FOIA request is available for review on Judicial Watch’s Internet site, www.judicialwatch.org.

Judicial Watch a non-partisan, educational foundation organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code.  Judicial Watch is dedicated to fighting government and judicial corruption and promoting a return to ethics and morality in our nation’s public life.

Rutherford Institute Attorneys Plan to Appeal District Court Dismissal of First Amendment Lawsuit Over Removal of Teacher’s Christian-Themed Posters

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— In a recent ruling, the federal district court for the Eastern District of Virginia has dismissed a First Amendment lawsuit filed by attorneys for The Rutherford Institute on behalf of teacher William Lee, whose religious-themed materials were removed from the walls of his classroom while he was out sick. The lawsuit, Lee v. York County School Division, et al., was filed in August 2005 and alleged that the selective removal of Christian materials constituted viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment. Institute attorneys had argued that school officials with the York County School Division deprived William Lee of his rights to freedom of speech and equal protection under the law. The District Court ruled that Lee’s expression constituted expression as an employee of the School Division in the course of the school’s curriculum and so was subject to plenary control by school officials. Additionally, the court held that notwithstanding evidence that teachers at the school were generally allowed to post matters on their walls that were of personal interest or current interest, the school had not created a forum for expression within the school in which Lee had a right to engage in personal expression. Institute attorneys plan to appeal the court’s ruling.

Evangelist To Stand Trial For Ministering On Public Sidewalk; Federal Lawsuit Filed

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Chester County District Court Judge Mark Bruno decided at a preliminary hearing on Tuesday (2-28-06) to hold Michael Marcavage over for trial on a charge of “Defiant Trespass” for his refusal to surrender his constitutionally protected rights while ministering on a public sidewalk near a Pennsylvania college campus.

In October of last year, Repent America director Michael Marcavage was standing on a public sidewalk with a sign displaying the reality of abortion next to the state campus of West Chester University during the organization’s annual pro-life evangelism tour. In response, university officials ordered campus police to issue the ministry director a trespassing citation for not submitting to its permitting process, which requires that a registration form be completed and approved two hours in advance before any expressive activity can be conducted on or near the public campus. The permit process violates constitutionally protected rights under both the Pennsylvania and United States Constitutions.

During the preliminary hearing, prosecution argued that Marcavage violated the university policy by not registering and giving two hours notice before engaging in expressive activity. C. Scott Shields, Marcavage’s attorney, argued that there is no merit to the “Defiant Trespass” since the policy is facially unconstitutional because it prohibits anonymous and spontaneous speech on public property, and therefore, the case should not go to trial. After hearing argument, Judge Bruno decided to hold Marcavage for trial, releasing him on a $1,000 unsecured bond and ordering that he not return to the campus for ministry or for any other reason. The case is now headed to a jury trial, which could result in up to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine.

Action Plan Between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Secretariat of Governance of the United Mexican States

US Mexico borderBrownsville, Texas - In accordance with the Security and Prosperity Partnership, the Secretary of Governance of Mexico, Carlos Abascal, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff met in Brownsville, Texas, to sign an Action Plan to combat border violence and improve public safety.  The commitment between the two nations will strengthen procedures between federal law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border to respond to different scenarios ranging from accidental crossings to incidents of violence, or other situations that present risks to those who live, work, or travel at our common border.

“Criminal networks operating at the border are increasingly emboldened and represent alarming risks to our security and public safety.  Their lawlessness is intolerable, and together we will confront them with the full force of the law,” said Secretary Chertoff.  “We are pledging swift and aggressive action to combat violent criminal activity at the border, and we’ll continue to share critical information to target and dismantle these dangerous criminal networks.”
