In the aftermath of the Huston area evacuation during the threat from Hurricane Rita, lessons were learned. But these same lessons were experience just one generation ago. Too bad no one took in consideration the possibilities of a massive evacuation.
I remember in the 1980s, when the cold war was at its peak Connecticut was identified as a nuclear target by the Russians. All the major cities developed evacuation plans which everyone would evacuate. Sister communities were designated, that were likely to be targeted.
The towns of Burlington, Connecticut and Becket, Massachusetts, however, decided in September 1982 to put FEMA's CRP plan to a test. But the Burlington Organization for the Movement of Bodies to Safety (BOMBS) and the Becket League to Assist the Scorched and Terrified (BLAST) set about in a less serious fashion than perhaps FEMA would have preferred. After a cablegram was sent to the Soviet government, advising it that Burlington's actions would not be a prelude to nuclear attack, about 150 spirited Burlington residents drove the 65 miles up Route 8 to Becket, halting on two occasions because autos ran out of gas. Upon reaching the host community, residents were welcomed with the sign, "Water contaminated, cold beer ahead" while two teenagers in surgical masks ominously scanned entrants with Geiger counters. The citizens of Becket saluted the evacuees for carrying out the exercise in less than three of the allotted four hours, as well as executing the requirement to haul innumerable portable toilets and boxes of diapers.
Participants, of course, realized that the host community of Becket was located 12 miles from a General Electric plant that produced parts for the Polaris missile, making it a prime target for nuclear attack. Recognizing the futility of it all, Mrs. Bill Tomaney, one of the BOMBS organizers, said that if there really was an attack, Becket residents "would all be in Canada by the time we got there." Still, such sober thoughts were not allowed to puncture the euphoric spirit of a block party. The drill was followed by a parade and the presentation of a charred key to the city of Burlington. In this nation-wide debate, civil defense was considered so fantastic, so impossible to implement, that it became a subject to be ridiculed as much as be debated. The latest legal attack and victory by atheist, Michael Newdow against the mention of God in our "Pledge of Allegiance" shows how our activist Federal Courts are leading our country down a dark path. Calling it a conflict of the so-called separation of church and state, has put God, our county and all Christians in a very perilous situation.
Personally, I do not believe there is such a violation. I recently did a search on how many times God is mention in our Federal U.S. Code. There are 69 instances and referrals to God. Also, all 50 States mention God or refer to Him in their Sate Constitutions.
There are many Legal Oaths where you will swear to God. Since George Washington, all of our Presidents swear to God with their right hand on a Bible when taking the Oath of Office.
In our courts of law (including our federal courts) all witness shall swear to tell the truth using a Bible, and most still end the oath with ‘so help me God.’"
All immigrants taking the Oath of Alliance when becoming U.S. citizens end the oath with so help me God .
All of our money has "In God We Trust" embedded on it.
Scientists and environmentalist are crying out the danger of global warming as evidence of the large number of hurricanes this season. This is false!
The 1940s decade saw the record number of hurricanes of this century. NOAA reports a total of 24. The average per decade since 1860 is 17.6. No one was crying global warming back then.
A report on the fallacy of global warming was detailed by C.R. de Freitas of the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Auckland in New Zealand in 2002. He reports of at least fourteen fallacies with a major lack of true evidence on global warming. For example:
Fallacy 10: Global warming will result in more extreme weather events. Nothing could be further from the truth, as de Freitas demonstrates. Whether it be extremes of heat and cold, droughts, floods, hail, tornadoes or hurricanes, there is absolutely no evidence that these phenomena have increased globally over the twentieth century. In fact, there is much empirical evidence to suggest that more warmth leads to a more stable climate. (From c02science.org Vol 5 No 52)
It has been a long time between posts. Since July I have been fine tuning the code for the site. Plus I was occupied by many other computer and home projects. So many major events have occurred. Such the hurricanes in the Gulf, major changes to the US Supreme Court, and the recent attack on the "Pledge Allegiance." I did cover many of these events in my other blog, at Christian Viewpoint.
But now I am ready to Blog!
